Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.  一位菲律宾祖母即将步入晚年，她放弃了自己的八十岁生日聚会，去召唤她早已去世的孙女的灵魂，试图通过压抑的记忆来弥补过去的过错。

　　肥招（曾志伟 饰）和凡秋（陈勋奇 饰）是一对从小一起长大的好朋友，但两人的性格却大不相同，肥招老实木讷，凡秋则浮华招摇。因投资不善，凡秋被高利贷逼得走投无路，幸亏有好友相助，才得以在肥招家中暂时栖身。此前肥招家里住着一个离家出走的叛逆少女阿君（陈淑兰 饰），凡秋随她出席某酒会，认识了美貌和财富并重的美女保莲（杨宝玲 饰）。以此为契机，他的事业初见起色，随后更和文静贤淑的女友莎莉（张敏 饰）分手，与保莲坠入爱河。　　另一方面，害羞腼腆的肥招也开始喜欢上莎莉，在阿君的参谋下，他向这个失意的女子展开了感情攻势……

　　“不准奔跑、不准跳水，天黑以后没有救生员值勤，不准游泳。”　　影片根据2014年拍摄的同名短片改编，内心深处希望能够战胜病魔，再度回归美国职棒大联盟打球的雷（怀亚特·拉塞尔 Wyatt Russell 饰）和他的太太伊芙（凯瑞·康顿 Kerry Condon 饰）搬进新家，后院的游泳池不仅让孩子们玩得开心，也能够让他进行物理治疗，然而这栋房子阴暗神秘的过去即将释放一股邪恶力量，把这一家人拉进无法逃脱的恐怖深渊。
